Tricksters in Popular American Culture


Popular American Tricksters include Bugs Bunny, Wile E. Coyote, and The Road Runner from Nickelodeon's Loony Toons

Bugs Bunny- He is
witty, intelligent, bold, creative, andfast on his feet.  He often uses his intelligence and creativity to make plans to trick other characters to get what he wants.  He is based off the traditional trickster Brer Rabbit.

Wile E. Coyote - Coyote is quick, careful, scheming, and seemingly good at planning, but he often fails.  He is obsessed with attempts to make crazy plans to catch the road runner, but he never succeeds.  

Road Runner- The road runner is a simple trickster who is very fast, mysterious, and good at escaping Coyote's traps.  He has never been caught by the Coyote!

Take a minute to think about the interactions between Coyote and The Road Runner.  Do you think they would still be tricksters if Coyote wasn't always trying to catch Road Runner?  Why or why not?
